I am Harrison Jeong,
and I create mixed media paintings.
My work draws inspiration from ancient mosaics, fresco fragments, and archeological surfaces. Using layered stucco, sanding, and pigment, I create paintings that feel uncovered rather than newly made—works shaped by erosion, excavation, and the passage of time.
I’m interested in how cultures build upon and erase those before them, and how traces of the past continue to echo into the present. Through surface, material, and intentional aging, I explore memory, symbolism, and the patterns that connect one era to the next.
If a piece speaks to you, or if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
How I Work:
My paintings are built slowly through layers of stucco, sanding, pigment, and surface manipulation. I use a mix of brushes, palette knives, abrasives, and other tools to create texture and wear, allowing each piece to develop depth over time.
I’m drawn to surfaces that feel aged, weathered, and unearthed. By combining painting with techniques inspired by erosion, excavation, and material decay, I create works that feel closer to relics or fragments than freshly made images.
Each piece is shaped through a physical process of layering, removal, and reworking, where texture becomes just as important as image.
